Philosophy and Goals
Good
Shepherd Christian Preschool is a developmental program, based on the
understanding that a child learns naturally through his/her play. A child plays
to understand and master his/her environment, and to master many skills. A
child will grow naturally and experientially when given the right environment.
Learning occurs for a child through concrete and active experiences. Each child
is ready to learn on his/her own level and has his/her own style. The whole
world is a classroom to explore with a child.
Our
program will provide for a child's total development in areas of social,
intellectual, spiritual, emotional, cognitive, creative and physical growth.
Our goals center around the
following:
We strive to achieve these
goals through direct contact with play media and caring adults.
Enrollment
Enrollment in Good Shepherd Christian
Preschool must meet the following criteria. The child must be 3 by September 15
and must be self sufficient in the restroom.
Enrollment for the 4 year old program:
The child must be 4 by September 15 and be self-sufficient in the restroom.
Registration
Parents may register their child for
school by completing a registration form and returning it to the school or the
school or the director, implications are accepted on a first-come first-serve
basis. A non-refundable registration fee will be required of those students enrolled
in the program and it will not be applicable towards tuition.
Tuition
Tuition is due by the 10th of each month,
September through May. Any payment received after the 15th of the month will
have a $5.00 late charge added if
arrangements are not made. Accounts need to be paid up to date by the first
of the following month. Checks should be made out to Good Shepherd Christian Preschool.
They may be brought to school or mailed to
We are
asking that the last month of May’s tuition be paid in August and we are
calling it August/May tuition. We are doing this to avoid end of the year
confusion on tuition.
Discharge
If a student is unable to adjust to
appropriate classroom routine, a teacher and parent conference will be held. If
inappropriate behavior continues, the Preschool Board will evaluate the
teachers recommendation for withdrawal, at that time the parents may request a
conference with the Preschool Board.
Discipline Policy
Classroom rules will be established at
the beginning of each school year by the staff. When a rule has been broken,
the following steps will be followed:
No
child shall be subjected, under any circumstances, to corporal punishment inflicted
in any manor.
School Cancellations
The preschool will be closed when the
School Calendar

Visitors
We welcome visitors at anytime and
encourage parents to come see their child at school. We do ask, though, that
you allow us and the children the first month to get aquatinted and accustomed
to the surroundings.
If any parent or relative of a child has
a special talent (I.e. plays an instrument, performs an unusual activity, has
an interesting background etc.), they are always more than welcome to come and
share their talent with the children. Contact the teachers to possibly schedule
a special visit.
Birthdays
Birthdays will be given a simple
recognition. Parents will be requested to supply the snack for the day that
their child's birthday is recognized. Children whose birthday fall during the
summer when the school is not in session will celebrate a pretend birthday
selected by the teachers, usually 1/2 birthday.
Parties
During the school year there are party
days for Career Dress Up Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentines Day, Easter
Party, and May Picnic. We ask at the beginning of the year for parents help by
serving on a party committee and to
choose the parties in which they are
interested.
For each party we need parents to
bring treats, drinks, games, a craft
project and a party favor. Please let us
know if we can share your phone number with the other parents.
Any parent or any other adult relative who
would like to attend is welcome.
Please note, we ask that no other
children be present at party times.
Parent - Teacher Opportunities
Please feel free to contact the teachers
at anytime you would like to discuss your child and his/her experience at
school.
Fieldtrips
Each class will attempt to participate in
a variety of field trips throughout the year. There will be extra cost for the
fieldtrips. These cost include the cost of using public transportation and
admittance fees.
Policy of Late Pick-Up of Children
Being prompt to pick-up your children is
important to your child and our staff. Children look forward to being met by
their parents or a friend who will take them home. When the parent of friend is
10-15 minutes late, then the child receives a negative message saying,
"I'm not very important.", Also the staff needs this time after
dismissal for clean-up and preparation for the next class. Four year old
classes meet Monday, Wednesday & Friday. Class is from
There will be a 15 minute grace period,
after this time, a late fee will be assessed in the amount of $15.00 for the
first 15 minutes late and $20.00 for the next 15 minutes. No late warnings will be issued.
After
Toys for Home
Please leave all toys at home. The school
will not be responsible for broken or lost items. Sharing days, and only on
these days, will a child be allowed to bring toys from home. Please, put names on things from home.
Please do not send your child to
preschool with food, candy or gum, It Is not fair to the other children when
they have gum, food or candy and they do not,
Preschool Board Meetings
We meet at least four times a year Dates
and times of the meetings will be posted. If you are interested in coming or
having something to share, you are always welcome.
Snacks
A mid morning snack Is provided by the
students each day. Parents are requested to send nutritious snacks to be shared
with their child's class on a rotating basis. The monthly calendar will
Indicate the snack schedule for each class and parents will each receive a
copy. Please do not send sheet cakes or cupcakes.
Arrival/ Pick-up
Please
bring the children to the classroom door no sooner than 5 minutes before class begins. Teachers need this time to prepare
the classroom and projects for the day.
You must bring the children to the
classroom door so the teachers know that your child has arrived. Never drop
your child off at the curb outside. Our outside door Is very heavy.
Please drop
off your child with a hug and leave. This is especially important for children
who have some anxiety about being separated from mom or dad.
If you need to have a long discussion with
the teachers about your child etc.. please make an appointment with them to discuss
the issue at length.
We will not allow your child to be picked
up by anyone who is not on the pick-up permission slip. If It Is an emergency,
Please call or write a note to allow us to release your child to them, They
must have a valid photo ID.
Let Us Know
